Engineering Students Program TLRO’s Robot

MU Engineering students

James E. Thompson, PhD, a professor in the MU Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, guided senior students Chase Davis, Andrew Wentworth, Eric Hugenberg, Brendan Sheedy and Jacob Schmiedeskamp in a capstone project to activate and program the Thompson Laboratory for Regenerative Orthopaedics’ robotic arm to simulate shoulder movement.

Senior mechanical engineering students Chase Davis, Andrew Wentworth, Eric Hugenberg, Brendan Sheedy and Jacob Schmiedeskamp completed their capstone project under the direction of James E. Thompson, PhD, by activating and programming the Thompson Laboratory for Regenerative Orthopaedics’ robotic arm to perform advanced biomechanical testing procedures that simulate real-life shoulder movement.

This collaboration between the School of Medicine and the College of Engineering was a wonderful example of multi-disciplinary teamwork accomplishing our educational mission and advancing health care for the benefit of patients.
